MRI directed ultrasound fibroid treatment
MRI directed ultrasound fibroid treatment. Ultrasound being used to destroy uterine fibroids in a female patient. Uterine fibroids are benign (non-cancerous) tumours that originate from the smooth muscle layer (myometrium) of the uterus. The ultrasound is directed into a highly concentrate impact point and used to burn the growths away at temperatures around 70 degrees Celsius. MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) is used to track the destruction of the tumours in real time. Photographed at the CHU (Centre Hospitalier Regional Universitaire de Tours) hospital, Tours, France.
