Blue Morpho butterflies and Cocoons
Blue Morpho butterflies, latin name Morpho peleides, are here seen just after coming out of their cocoons. Here seen are the undersides of their wings, brown and with fake eyespots that serve to scare off predators. The inside of their wings are bright and iridescence blue with black edges, which makes these butterflies, when adult, a striking sight. It is among the largest butterflies in the world, with wingspreads of 12 to 20 cm
