Whooper Swans at Martin Mere
Whooper Swans (Cygnus cygnus) and mixed duck flocks at Martin Mere, a Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust bird reserve near Southport, Lancashire, UK at sunset on partially frozen water. Numbers here are artificially high as these wild birds are fed each day. Long term ornithological surveys have revealed that fewer wildfowl are coming to the British Isles each winter, as climate change leads to milder winters, meaning some birds are staying on the continent, closer to their breeding grounds.
