Common rain spider egg sac
Common rain spider (Palystes superciliosus) egg sac. Egg sac (nest) of a common rain spider attached to a plant. P. superciliosus is a species of huntsman spider (family Sparassidae) that is native to Southern Africa. After mating in the early summer, the female common rain spider constructs an egg sac, which measures around 60-100 mm in size, from silk with twigs and leaves woven into it. Here, the nest contains a discarded plastic food wrapper that the spider has used as if it were a leaf. Photographed in Cape Town, South Africa.
