Ashfall Fossil Beds display. Prehistoric rhinoceros (Teleoceras) display with a University of Nebraska palaeontology student and a volunteer excavating fossils at the Ashfall Fossil Beds. Part of Ashfall Fossil Beds State Historical Park near Royal, Nebraska, USA, this site is where ash from an erupting volcano covered the area nearly 12 million years ago during the Miocene. Excavations have uncovered fossils of animals buried by the ash. Photographed in 2014.
