A Bearded Seal (Erignathus barbatus)
A Bearded Seal (Erignathus barbatus) on rotten melting sea ice at 80 degrees 59 minutes North, off the coast of Northern Svalbard. The sea ice in the winter of 2012/13 was one of the worst on record. none of the Western fjords on Svalbard froze over, a disaster for Polar Bears, who can only hunt their main prey, seals on sea ice.
