Assassin bug with dead ants
Assassin bug (Acanthaspis sp.) with dead ants. The Acanthaspis species of assassin bugs predate on a number of prey but only use the bodies of ants to form a protective covering. It is beleived that the disguise acts as a deterrent to jumping spiders, which would normally attack uncovered assassin bugs. Photographed in Singapore.
