Cyclone Eline aftermath, Mozambique, 2000
Cyclone Eline aftermath. People looking at a truck submerged on a road flooded when the Zambezi river, Mozambique, burst its banks during Cyclone Eline. Cyclone Eline hit Mozambique in February 2000, killing many and effectively wiping the town of Xai-Xai off the map as the Zambezi burst its banks. Here, on the route between Maputo and Xai-xai, the road (where the men are standing) was washed away. An emergency road has been built but has been blocked by two trucks (centre right) that have fallen down the bank of the road. Photographed in May 2000
