Weberian apparatus, 3D micro-CT scan
Zebrafish Weberian apparatus. Coloured 3D micro-computed tomography (CT) scan of several vertebrae and the Weberian apparatus of an adult zebrafish. The head end is at the top. The Weberian apparatus is part of the auditory system in fish, and conveys sound amplified by the swim bladder to the inner ear via a series of paired bones: the tripus (larger triangular structures in the middle), intercalarium (elongated structures) and scaphium (pyramidal shaped structures in orange at the top). The paired elongated structures in the middle (green) are the os suspensorium.
