Radiation survey of Bikini Atoll. Helicopter (lower centre) carrying out an aerial survey of Bikini Atoll, part of the Marshall Islands in the Pacific Ocean. This atoll was the site of a number of above-ground nuclear weapons tests between 1946 and 1958. Tests ended following the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty in 1963. Radiation levels on Bikini Atoll have been monitored as part of research to investigate the effects of nuclear testing in the area. Photographed on 15 November 1978.
