Muscular dystrophy research
A patient with facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHMD) undergoes breath tests. FSHMD is a usually inherited form of muscular dystrophy which causes progressive weakening and wasting of the skeletal muscles, initially of the face, shoulders and upper arms. This patient is undergoing tests as part of a therapeutic trial investigating the use of antioxidant supplements in the treatment of muscular dystrophies.
