Fungus Sistotrema brinkmannii, SEM
Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Sistotrema brinkmannii is basidiomycete (homobasidiomycete) that causes wood decay and wood rot. It is a soil fungus that is very prevalent in various types of soil environments. It has been reported to be in over 50% of residences, thus making it a building and health concern. Sistotrema brinkmannii is also associated with lodge pole pines that have been attacked by the pine bark beetle in North America. S. brinkmannii is the most common wood-rotting fungus.
