Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Little black ant (Monomorium minimum). Monomorium minimum is called the little black in the family Formicidae. This ant has the ability to shoot off an offensive alkaloid at other ants to protect itself. Monomorium minimum are scavengers that can inject bird droppings to dead insects. Workers may forage in households and nest in soil mounds. It also tends aphids such as the soybean aphid and harvests honeydew. Magnification: x10 when shortest axis printed at 25 millimetres.
