Submandibular gland parenchyma, light micrograph
Submandibular gland parenchyma, light micrograph. The submandibular gland is a mixed gland with serous predominance. As the micrograph shows, the secretory component of this gland is formed by very abundant serous tubule-acini and a small amount of mixed tubule-acini, several of which stand out in the centre of the image. In the intralobular excretory duct system, the submandibular is characterized by a strong development of striated ducts, which can be seen near both the bottom and right edges of the image.
