Scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of American cockroach head (Periplaneta americana). These cockroaches generally live in moist areas, but can survive in dry areas if they have access to water. They prefer warm temperatures around 84 degrees Fahrenheit. They feed on a wide variety of plant and animal material. American cockroaches are the largest of the common roaches. Magnification: x12 when shortest axis printed at 25 millimetres.
