Stent in aortic aneurysm, 3D CT angiograms
Stent in aortic aneurysm. Coloured 3D computed tomography (CT) angiograms of the torso bones and arteries of a 70-year-old man with aortic aneurysms. The heart and skeleton are shown at left, but removed at right to show the aorta, the main body artery, as well as the kidneys. An aneurysm is a swelling of the artery wall, and can be fatal if it ruptures. A stent (metal mesh) has been implanted on the upper part of the descending aorta (upper right) after surgery on an aneurysm at this location. This patient also has an aneurysm of the sub-renal (below kidney) part of the aorta, and atheroma deposits (bright spots) in that location and on the arteries leading to the legs (the iliac arteries).
