Hoplitomeryx and Hexameryx, illustration. These extinct prehistoric pronghorn deer both lived during the Pliocene, with Hoplitomeryx (top) also existing earlier at the time of the Miocene. Hoplitomeryx lived in Europe, in Italy, while fossils of Hexameryx have been found in Florida, in North America. Hoplitomeryx had a central nasal horn in addition to its paired prong horns. Hexameryx had six horns.
