Bacteria from a domestic dishwasher, SEM
Dishwasher bacteria, Scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of bacteria found in a domestic dishwasher. Dishwasher detergents are designed for cleaning, but do little in the way of sanitizing dishwashers. Food debis, soap scum and grease can cling together, build up and provide the ideal breeding ground for various microorganisms. Regular maintainence and the use of the highest temperature cycle is necessary to kill bacteria and prevent build up of these potential areas of contamination.
