Polarised light micrograph of salicylic acid (C7H6O3) crystals. This colourless organic compound can cause moderate burns when high concentrations come into contact with the skin. It is used in acne products and for wart removals in low concentrations. It is found in plants where it is involved in plant growth and development, as well as photosynthesis and transpiration among other processes.
