Mammatus cloud. View of mammatus cloud formation underneath a cumulonimbus thundercloud. The mammatus forms are the hanging protruberances (the name comes from the latin word mamma meaning breast). These pouch formations undergo rapid swirling movements and indicate extreme turbulence and convection within the cloud. These clouds are associated with turbulent and stormy weather.
