Dumont d'Urville base, Antarctica
Dumont d'Urville base. Main building of Dumont d'Urville Station, a research base on the Ile des Petrels in Adelie Land, Antarctica. Adelie Land is the French territory in Antarctica, extending from here at the coast, inland to the South Pole. Dumont d'Urville Station was built in 1956. It can support 120 people during the summer, but only 30- 40 in the winter. It is supplied by ship, and with the opening of Concordia Station in 2005, it also acts as a staging area for transporting people and supplies to the new base further inland.
