Sea shore with floating algae
Green algae, Chlorophyta, floating on a sea shore. Algae is a general term applied to many simple photosynthetic plants including prokaryotic and eukaryotic forms. The algal plant body may be unicellular or multicellular, filamentous or flattened and ribbon-like. They are either aquatic (marine or freshwater) or may develop in damp situations such as damp walls, rocks, tree trunks, moss hummocks or soil.
