k New volcanic island in Tonga, 4102006 Home Reef, a new island in Tonga, satellite image. North is at top. The new island formed in mid2006 through the eruptions of the previously submarine volcano Home Reef. The eruptions produced huge rafts of pumice, which drifted northeast from the island. These can be seen in images taken in August E380711712. In this combined infrared and visible light image, deep water is dark blue, water mixed with volcanic sediment is light blue, the new land is grey and waves breaking on it are white. The image was taken by the Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer ASTER instrument on the Terra Earth observation satellite on 4th October 2006. This is a crop of a larger image, E380709. Stock Photo - Afloimages
