Santorini volcanic rock strata, Greece
Santorini volcanic rock strata. The strata are a result of successive volcanic eruptions at Akrotiri on the Mediterranean island of Santorini (also called Thera). Akrotiri is the name given to the excavation site of the Greek Bronze Age settlement, associated with the Minoan civilization. The town was buried and preserved under a massive volcanic eruption in the 17th century BC.
