Iron age village, aerial view, computer artwork. This village contains two large huts and an enclosure of livestock, all protected by a fence. The iron age is the last of the recognised prehistoric periods of human development, after the stone and bronze ages. It is marked by a move towards smelted iron as the main metal used for weaponry and tools. It began around 6000 years ago in Mesopotamia and spread to Egypt, India and Europe over the next few millennia. In Europe it began around 1000 BC, and ended with the written histories of the Roman Empire.
