Sauropod dinosaur footprint
Dinosaur footprint. An inverted dinosaur footprint in sandstone, possibly made by a sauropod. This footprint was made in soft mud on a lake bed. The print filled with sand, which was later compressed into sandstone. The block of sandstone was upturn- ed after falling from a cliff. Sauropods were huge long-necked, browsing herbivores that often lived half in water, which supported their body weight. The individual that made this print was probably about the size of a big African bull elephant. Photographed in Whitby, Yorkshire, UK.
