Sandstone arch
Sandstone arch. Natural arch in eroded sandstone rock in Tassili n'Ajjer National Park, Algeria. Tassili is a mountainous region at the centre of the Sahara. At the end of the Upper Pleistocene (10,000 years ago) the climate of this region was considerably wetter and rivers flowed across the plateau to great lakes. Fluvial processes eroded exposed sandstone outcrops resulting in the formation of natural arches and bridges.
