Great Salt Desert, Iran, satellite image. North is at top. Also called the Dasht-e Kevir, or valley of desert, this is the largest desert in Iran. It is primarily an uninhabited wasteland, composed of mud (grey) and salt marshes covered with crusts of salt (white) that retain a small amount of moisture.
