Forest of Scots pine and birch trees
Forest of Scots pine and birch trees covered in lichen and mosses. Lichen are a good indicator of clean air, being sensitive to airborne pollutants. The Scots pine trees (Pinus sylvestris) are the ones with a dark red bark, while the birch trees (Betula sp.) have a silver bark. Photographed in October, in Abernethy Forest, Cairngorms National Park, in the Highland region of Scotland.
