Volunteer planting pine seedlings, Scotland
MODEL RELEASED: Forest restoration. A volunteer planting a Scots Pine (Pinus sylvestris) seedling as part of an environmental restoration project in Scotland. The seedlings are from local seed stocks, varieties which have been growing in the area for thousands of years. About 99% of Scotland's native pine woods have been lost by human exploitation and neglect. The high population of Red Deer (Cervus elaphus) has grazed upon new seedlings, preventing their growth. Areas of land are now fenced off against the deer, and new seedlings are planted to accelerate the regeneration of the native woodlands. Photographed at Glen Affric, Highland Region.
