RAF Fylingdales
RAF Fylingdales. Aerial photograph RAF Fylingdales Ballistic Missile Early Warning Site (BMEWS). The pyramid shaped structure is a solid-state phased-array radar (SSPAR), which was built to replace the radomes seen behind. Each face contains an array of 2,560 transmit/recieve modules which produce a transmitter power of 340 Watts, giving an overall mean power output ot 2.5 Megawatts. Each module has a circularly-polarised antenna and the radar has a range of 3000 miles. Photographed at Fylingdales moor, Yorkshire, UK, in 1993.
