Lung abscess
Lung abscess. Gross clinical specimen of a large abscess (holes, black) in a slice through a lung. An abscess is a collection of pus surrounded by inflamed tissue. It is usually due to a bacterial infection. Surgical draining and antibiotic drugs may be required, and this normally allows healing to take place. Mortality rates are high in immuno- compromised patients.
