Fungal lung infection
Fungal lung infection. Light micrograph of a section through lung tissue in aspergillosis. This is an infection by an Aspergillus sp. fungus. The branching filaments of the fungus are seen here. This condition is mostly a complication of a lung disease that has weakened the patient. The fungus often colonizes a pre-existing cavity in the lung, such as in tuberculosis, and forms a fungal ball. Such balls may also form in other cavities such as the eyes or facial sinuses. If the fungus spreads throughout the body, the infection may be fatal. Treatment is with antifungal drugs. Magnification unknown.
