Brain cyst, MRI scan
Brain cyst. Coloured magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan of a sagittal (side) section through the brain of a 49 year man with a suprasellar epidermoid cyst (pink, centre). An epidermoid (skin-like) cyst is an benign lump or swelling that is filled with fluid or semi-solid material. It is a congenital disorder, although often not symptomatic until the patient is between 20 and 40 years of age. In this case the cyst has resulted in facial numbness and spasms.
