Secondary bone cancer, X-ray
Secondary bone cancer. Coloured X-ray of the spine of a man with sclerotic vertebrae due to metastatic (secondary) cancer. The cancer has caused areas of increased bone density called sclerotic lesions (orange). The cancer spread from a tumour in the prostate gland, part of the male reproductive system located below the bladder. Bone cancer may cause pain, particularly at night, and the bones often have a tendency to fracture. Treatment includes radiotherapy, chemotherapy and hormone therapy.
