Kidney damage, CT scan
Kidney damage. Coloured lateral computed tomography (CT) scan showing a vertical section through the abdomen of a woman who has been in a traffic accident. The front of the body is at left and the liver can be seen at top (solid mass). The patient's right kidney (green, upper centre) has been lacerated, causing it to haemorrhage (bleed) and become displaced downward. Lacerations are irregular, tear-like wounds caused by some form of blunt trauma. Kidney lacerations are also common injuries associated with contact-sports.
