Translocation between chromosomes 17 and 20
Chromosome translocation. Three views of a trans- location between the chromosome 17 pair and the chromosome 20 pair. At upper right is a fluoresce- nce in situ hybridisation (FISH) micrograph, with each pair \painted\" yellow/green in turn. The left view has chromosome 17's genetic material painted, while chromosome 20's material is painted on the right. The swapping of genetic material between the two leads to the mixture of colours on the affected chromosomes. At lower right, this is seen using standard banding techniques, which do not show the translocation as clearly. At left is a diagram explaining the shift of genetic material."
