Cochlear implant testing
MODEL RELEASED. Cochlear implant testing. Audiologist fitting the external components of a cochlear implant on a seven year old girl during a hearing test. This device consists of a transmitter (circular) and a microphone (around the ear) and a processor (not seen). The transmitter is magnetically attached to a receiver which has been surgically implanted in the girl's scalp. Signals from the microphone are relayed directly to the nerves of the ear via electrodes implanted in the inner ear. The device enables the profoundly deaf to be aware of some sound.
