Robotic micro-surgery drill
Robotic micro-surgery drill. Ear, nose and throat surgeon testing a robotic micro-drill. The drill is able to drill through the eggshell, but stop before penetrating the underlying membrane. This has a practical application in the fitting of cochlear implants, where drilling into the wall of the cochlea (inner ear hearing organ), but not its inner membrane, will improve the efficiency of the implant.
