Abnormal oesophagus cells
Abnormal oesophagus cells. Endoscope view of the upper part of the oesophagus (gullet), showing abnormal cells. This patch is made up of heterotopic gastric mucosa cells, which are normally found lower down in the stomach. They appear different to the normal oesophageal membrane (squamous mucosa) and need monitoring as they may be indicative of a number of disorders.
