Thermography equipment used to diagnose hands
Thermography camera in use. Technician aims a thermovision camera at a male patient's hands to diagnose hand disorders. A thermogram image (at right) shows the patient's hands relayed onto a computer screen. The image is colour-coded by temperature in degrees Celsius (C): black (21.4 C); shades of blue (22.4-24.5 C); shades of green (25.6-28.9 C). No temperature is above 29 C (red). The patient's fingers are cold which may indicate a poor peripheral blood circulation. This kind of thermal analysis of skin temperature may help to diagnose such disorders as Raynaud's disease, carpal tunnel syndrome and arthritis. Photographed at the Clinique de la Toussaint, France.
