Blood sample tubes
Blood sample tubes. Vacutainers that are used to hold samples of blood collected from patients or blood donors. In the box next to the vacutainers are various items of medical equipment including packs of sterile wipes, gauze and other dressings that may be used to stop bleeding after blood has been collected. Blood samples may be taken from patients to help diagnose the cause of illness. Such blood will be screened for pathogens, and also for other parameters such as cell counts or glucose levels. Samples taken from blood donors are screened for blood diseases, such as hepatitis and HIV, and typed to determine the blood group so that the correct type is given in a transfusion.
