Michael Faraday
(Date taken unknown)
Faraday at work. Artwork of Michael Faraday (1791-1867) at work. He is in his laboratory at the Royal Institution of Great Britain, Albemarle Street, London, England. He was born into poverty and poorly educated, but he became one of Britain's most famous scientists. He is best known for studies on electrolysis and electromagnetic phenomena. His electromagnetic research formed the background for the unified electromagnetic theory elaborated by James Maxwell. In 1832 Faraday formulated the Laws of Electrolysis which dictate the behaviour of a chemical solution in electric currents. He devised the first electric motor and equipment such as transformers.
