Bear skull, Chauvet Cave replica, France
Bear skull placed on an altar inside the Chauvet Cave replica, Caverne du Pont d'Arc, France. The bear skull altar, found in Chauvet Cave, may have been used in rituals. Caverne du Pont d'Arc, a replica of the Chauvet Cave, was constructed to preserve the site. It contains some of the best-preserved Palaeolithic (stone age) figurative cave paintings in the world. These paintings are thought to be around 36,000 years old.
