Blood sampling
Blood sampling. Gloved hands draw blood from the vein (venepuncture) of a patient's arm. The barrel of the syringe has received a purple vacutainer, a test-tube like container which holds the blood sample. A blue tourniquet (band) on the upper arm is used to constrict venous blood return, thus enlarging the veins and making them easier to penetrate with a hypodermic needle.
