X-ray warning sign. View of an X-ray warning sign in a hospital. The sign warns the reader that they are about to pass into a controlled area where there is danger of exposure to X-rays. At centre, is the internationally recognised radiation warning logo. Prolonged or repeated exposure to X-rays can cause sterility, inflammation and ulceration of the skin and hair loss. It is therefore important to implement safety measures to prevent unnecessary exposure. X-rays are used in diagnosis and therapeutically in the treatment of leukaemia and other diseases.
