Keyhole surgery training
Keyhole surgery training. Surgeons training in minimally invasive (keyhole) surgery. They are using remotely controlled robotic tools while looking at internal (endoscopic) views of the patient on television screens using fibre optic technology. This room is part of the European Institute of Telesurgery (EITS), in Strasbourg, France. The room is the largest operating theatre in the world, with seventeen operating tables. Thousands of surgeons worldwide come here each year to be trained. EITS was formed by IRCAD, the French research institute for digestive system cancers, and specialises in laparoscopic surgery (keyhole abdominal surgery). Photographed in 2007.
