Prosthetic knee
Prosthetic knee. Coloured X-ray of the knee joint with an artificial or prosthetic joint (yellow). Knee-joint replacement is most often carried out in older people whose knees are severely affected by osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis. Arthritis is a general term used to describe inflammation of the joints. It affects joints symmetrically: joints of the feet, knees, ankles, hips, fingers, wrists and shoulders are affected. Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune condition diagnosed by a blood test that reveals the presence of the rheumatic factor, and by X-rays that show typical erosion of the joints.
