Tuberculosis treatment
Tuberculosis treatment. Child preparing to take DOTS tuberculosis (TB) drugs. TB is an infection by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It usually infects the lungs and can cause severe scarring. If tuberculosis is not completely eradicated, then drug-resistant forms can develop. The recommended strategy is DOTS (Directly Observed Treatment, Short-course), where the taking of the drugs is supervised by medical personnel. These drugs have been ground up and put in water in order to make them easier to swallow. Photographed in St Peter's TB Hospital, Ethiopia.
