Earache is a common symptom usually caused by infection or by disorders in internal structures neighbouring the ear. Ear infections normally occur in the middle ear, or the outer ear canal. A loss of hearing can accompany the earache. Earache is also experienced by people suffering from dental problems, tonsillitis, throat cancer or pain in the jaw or neck muscles. This is because the ear is served by the same nerves as these areas.
